The graphite electrode is mainly made up of petroleum coke and needle coke as the material, and the coal bitumen is used as the binder. It is made by calcination, compounding, kneading, pressing, roasting, graphitization and machining. It is released by arc in the electric arc furnace. The conductor that heats and melts the charge of the furnace material is mainly used for electric steelmaking. According to its quality index, it can be divided into general power, high power and ultra high power.

The graphite electrode contains:

(1) General power graphite electrode It is recommended to use a graphite electrode with a current density lower than 17A/cm2, which is mainly used for general power electric furnaces such as steel making, silicon refining, and yellowing phosphorus.

(2) Anti-oxidation coated graphite electrode A graphite electrode coated with an anti-oxidation maintenance layer (graphite electrode antioxidant). Form a maintenance layer that is both electrically conductive and resistant to high temperature oxidation, lowering the electrode cost during steelmaking (19% to 50%), the service life of the extended electrode (22% to 60%), and reducing the electrical energy consumption of the electrode. The implementation of this skill can bring about such economic and social effects:

1 Graphite electrode units cost less, and production costs have a certain decline. For example, in a steel-making plant, 35 graphite electrodes per week are suspended for one year, and the consumption of 165 furnaces is roughly calculated. After using the anti-oxidation skills of graphite electrodes, 373 tons (153 tons) can be saved each year. The electrode, accounting for RMB 16,900 per ton of ultra-high power electrode per year, can save 2,857,700 yuan.

2 Graphite electrode consumes less power, saves electricity consumption per unit of steelmaking, saves production costs, and saves energy!

3 Because the number of graphite electrode exchanges is small, the labor and risk factors of the operators are reduced, and the production efficiency is improved.

4 Graphite electrodes are low-cost and low-pollution products. Today, energy-saving and emission-reducing environmental protection has a very important social meaning.

This kind of skill is still in the stage of research and development in China, and some domestic manufacturers have begun to produce. It has been widely used in developed countries such as Japan. At present, there are also companies specializing in the import of such antioxidant maintenance coatings.

(3) High power graphite electrode. It is recommended to use a graphite electrode with a current density of 18 to 25 A/cm 2 , which is mainly used for high-power electric arc furnaces for steel making.

(4) Ultra high power graphite electrode. It is recommended to use a graphite electrode with a current density greater than 25 A/cm 2 . It is primarily used in ultra-high power steelmaking arc furnaces.
