An expandable graphite rod used as a fireproof filler is a graphite rod intercalation compound obtained by chemical or electrochemical treatment. Under the condition of heat, the expandable graphite rod swells and suffocates the flame, and at the same time generates an expansion product, which can isolate the flame, delay or interrupt the flame spread, and is itself non-combustible, has good softness, high appearance and good strength of the carbonized layer. However, the volume and amount of the expansion body should be selected appropriately. The test indicated that 150 μm particles, 30% expansion ratio, and 5% dosage were most suitable. The scale graphite rod can be directly used as a carbon conductive filler or a composite conductive filler for a conductive paint. However, due to the large amount of graphite rod scales added, the performance of the paint becomes brittle and its application is limited. Therefore, measures are taken to further improve the conductivity of the graphite rod and effectively reduce the amount of graphite rod scale added. Graphite rod scale anti-corrosion paint has the characteristics of corrosion-resistant medium penetration, small residual stress, good deformation resistance to base deformation, stable construction performance and long-term static conduction. It can be used for electrostatically conductive coating on the inner wall of crude oil storage tanks.

Graphite rod scales are a layered natural solid lubricant that is resource-rich and inexpensive. Graphite rod scales are crystallized, thin and good in toughness, excellent in physical and chemical properties, and have good conductivity, electrical conductivity, thermal shock resistance and corrosion resistance. The scale graphite rods are classified into high carbon graphite rods, medium carbon graphite rods and low carbon graphite rods according to the carbon content.

Scale graphite rods are widely used in electrodes for battery processes, refractories in the metallurgical industry, and lubricant sealing materials for the chemical industry.
